Calculating the life of Mrs. Lloyd

Math is a subject that needs much time and dedication in order to teach it properly, and one teacher, in which this holds true, is none other than Rosanne Lloyd. With a teaching career spanning roughly 23 years, Mrs. Lloyd has experience with several different fields of mathematics, including geometry, trigonometry, and basic programming.

Lloyd began her teaching career because it combined two things she enjoys: math and kids. “I like young people, and I like math, so I wanted to find a way to do both,” said Lloyd.

She commented that she loves math because of the puzzle element that is present, and also recalled her favorite type of math to teach.

“My favorite is one that we don’t teach here, basic programming. It involves a lot of logic and strategy.”

Lloyd is also someone who has a definite enjoyment for her job, and displayed this when asked her favorite part of teaching. “Besides snow days?” she joked, “I love when you teach a complex subject, you eventually see the light bulbs go off in the students’ head and you go ‘Yay! They got it!’”

Teaching was not Lloyd’s first career choice, however. It was in fact rehabilitative medicine, where she worked with disabled people. “It was very fulfilling, but very difficult,” recalled Lloyd, “I never felt like I was doing enough. I liked the medical aspect of it, though.” Lloyd also stated that she would probably be somewhere in the field of medicine today if she weren’t a teacher.

If a career goes on long, people are bound to notice changes over time, and Lloyd has noticed some changes in how students’ behaviors have differed between now and then.

“Students definitely seem more confident, and there’s more diversity. Both are really good,” said Lloyd, “Students are almost like siblings now.”

As a teacher with a steady career and with a passion for what she does, Lloyd doesn’t show any signs of stopping, and is very enthusiastic about making sure students get what they need to be successful.

“I’ve been teaching for 23 years. Think that’s long enough?” laughed Lloyd.
