Ms. Laura Gunn

Ms. Laura Gunn is one of the many new faces who has joined the English department this year. She is currently teaching 10th and 11th grade Honors English and has been teaching English for 21 years. She earned her degree in secondary education at Texas A&M University, her masters degree in curriculum instruction and assessment at Walden University, and is currently working on another graduate degree in clinical mental health counseling.

Ms. Gunn’s favorite class in school was always English and she was always good at it. Her favorite part of teaching English here is how the students seem to really want to learn and she also thinks high schoolers are really fun to work with.

“I hope students are prepared for whatever they want to do whether it is college, advanced courses, or getting into the workforce.” Gunn’s main goal for all her students is that they are prepared to move on and succeed by the end of her class.

“Due to COVID and quarantines it is very hard to get make-up work done with students.” Gunn goes on to talk about how having students in and out on quarantine has been the hardest thing for her this year. All the absences this year have made teaching a lot more difficult for Ms. Gunn and all her students.

When Ms. Gunn is not teaching, she has a pretty interesting hobby. Gunn spends her free time working at her animal rescue and rehabilitation program, Classic Canine Obedience College, where she has both domestic and exotic animals.
