Marilyn Monroe’s home is getting demolished

Marilyn+Monroes+home+is+getting+demolished

The last home of Marilyn Monroe, Brentwood, is going to be destroyed soon. Marilyn Monroe, actress, model, and singer, lived from 1926-1962. Although this icon had over 40 homes throughout her amazing career, the only house she ever purchased herself was her Brentwood home that she passed away in.

There have been multiple owners of the home since her passing. The current owner filed for the $8.35 million dollar home to be demolished on August 7th. The first stage of the demolition was officially signed off on September 5th with no real reason as to why the current owner wanted to destroy it.

Fans and the Los Angeles community were outraged. They said that the home reflected her character as people can see the house and immediately think of her. Historians believe that the home is an important monument in Los Angeles history and culture.

Luckily, on September 8th, the Los Angeles City Council voted to temporarily halt the demolition, due to the rise in emotions from fans, historians, and community members. This decision will not affect the ownership of the home, but the meaning of the property may need to be evaluated.

The council made the decision to deem the home a cultural/historical monument. This way the world will still be able to visit the icon’s home. People of the council agree that the property should be preserved since more and more historical/cultural monuments are getting torn down.

In order to move forward with saving the home, the Office of Historic Resources and Historical Cultural Commision will need to step in. These organizations will assist and recommend how to move forward in order to be successful in their process.

Monroe was and has always been an important figure in Hollywood. Since Monroe passed away 61 years ago, most of her worldly goods are either lost or forgotten. Fans see that it is extremely important that the members of the Los Angeles City Council and community are able to fully save the Brentwood home. To them, this home is more than just a place to live, it is a monument full of memories and moments of the past.
