Dying Light kicks off the gaming year

Dying Light is a thrilling zombie game set in the massive city of Harran. It is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and computers. The game requires players to transverse rooftops, craft weapons, and survive hordes of the undead all while getting to bed before nightfall, because that’s when the fun really begins.

Once night falls on the protagonist Kyle Crane, the undead creatures become as fast and agile as the protagonist is. While in daylight the monsters are easy to out maneuver and evade, at night they are much more difficult to avoid. With the speedy infected dogging his every step the only way to survive the night is to make it to a safe house and fast forward to daylight. The player has the ability to access almost any rooftop and travel above the dead sprawled all along the alleyways and streets. Or if the player takes a notion to go into Rambo mode the player can craft weapons like electric swords or boards with nails and take on an army of zombies.

Upon its release date of January 27, 2015, it has since maintained a steady hold as the best selling game for the month of January and February. The makers of the game are little known company Techland who partnered with Warren Bros. to make the game. Techland played a small hand in the making of Dead Island, but this was the company’s big debut game.

One of the newest aspects of the game Techland made sure was the heavily used first person parkour or free running mechanic where the player has the ability to climb anything from rooftops to vehicles to light posts. The game also makes a big point out of crafting new weapons and supplies to improve the protagonists chance of survival. Another big aspect of the game is the want for the player to use the environment to survive from kicking a zombie off the roof to throwing them into spikes and other deadly traps.

The game isn’t without its faults, however many customers reported crashes, glitches and other bugs upon the games release. The 4 player CO-OP mode featured in the game was also reported as non-responsive early on. Even with all the glitches and bugs the game got it right with the fighting mechanic it features a stamina bar with heavy attacks draining massive stamina while ineffective light attacks drained only slight amounts. However, from the beautiful scenery, to the thrilling rooftop jumps, to intense zombie battles Dying Light is a game players can really sink their teeth into.
