The boys basketball team has had an eventful regular season ending with two wins. The Trojans defeated the Halifax Comets on senior night with a score of 60-52, and beat the Brookville Bees with a score of 59-47.
Senior Brayden Fowlkes explained that he was excited for senior night saying, “I was ready to experience [senior night] as a senior.” Fowlkes was ready to play the Comets because of the way their first game went at Halifax: losing . “No one was expecting us to win, so I’m glad we did.”
The entire band of seniors was ready to work for that win. Senior Graham Haskins said, “I feel like senior night is an important game to win.”
Senior Ian Yeatts had mixed emotions following senior night, but he agreed overall with Haskins. “After senior night was sad but also more exciting since we won the game.”
The game against the Comets was an exciting game with the Trojans not gaining a lead until after half time. This was extremely nerve-wracking for the stands and the players. Senior Camden Nidiffer said, “I knew that winning that game was very necessary if we wanted to earn that number four seed [in the region].” Securing that spot was the only thing they needed in order to play their regional game against Abington at home.
Their regular season closer at home against Brookville was a tough game, but the boys pulled through with a win. “Going into Brookville I knew it was going to be a hard game even though they don’t have a great record because they play good teams,” Yeatts said.
Nidiffer had a similar opinion to Yeatts saying, “I was confident in the team’s ability since we have beaten them before, but just like any team, they improved a lot and it was a hard fought battle. I was very pleased with ending the regular season on a high like that.”
Moving forward, the Trojans are not able to lose a game to advance through the regional tournament, and their coming up game against Abington is a crucial turning point for them. Fowlkes explained, “If we lose, we’re done.”
Join the student section on Tuesday to cheer on the Trojans at home. They will begin their game against the Abington Falcons at 6 pm.
