Back Setting to Volleyball season

Volleyball Recap

The Lady Trojan’s varsity volleyball team had a season to remember.  The ladies finished 10-9 overall and 4-7 in the Piedmont District. While the team didn’t complete the season with the record they had hoped to have, they are still proud of all of their accomplishments. “The team is getting back to where Tunstall volleyball once was,” says varsity head coach Matt Beard, “the team is moving in the right direction.”

One of the more emotional nights of the season was senior night, where the players and fans payed tribute and respect to the 8 graduating players. After the tears were dried, the game began with six seniors starting on the court and the first set of the game was only played by the eight seniors. The graduating players made their last home game, their best home game as they pulled a win over the Bassett Bengals that night.

Accompanying this important win were the two wins the lady Trojans had over the Dan River Wildcats. This was an important win, not only the team, but also to new principal and former Dan River administrator, Mr. Boles.

Many awards were granted at the end of the season, one of the awards went to Sarah Beth Meyer who was named 1st team All Piedmont District and also 1st team outside hitter. Two players were named to the 2nd team All-Piedmont District; Cassidy Bowles, who was also granted 1st Team libero, and Zoey White, who was named 2nd Team setter as well. Grey Capozzoli was named an Honorable Mention hitter and Tessa Kaesmeyer was granted Honorable Mention outside hitter.

Coach Matt Beard presented the team with awards as well. Grey Capozzoli along with Tessa Kaesmeyer were both named as Most Improved Player, Cassidy Bowles was granted Best Defensive Player.  Zoey White was named Best Offensive Player and Molly Hughes was presented with the Coaches Award.

The returning players will continue to prepare for next season by participating in camps, open gyms, and Junior Olympic travel volleyball in order to prepare for the upcoming season.
