Mr. Brian Boles

Although a new face here at Tunstall, the new principal Mr. Boles is a familiar, friendly face to Pittsylvania County. “This is my fourteenth year,” he commented. Boles has spent seven years as a special education teacher in Danville and six past years as the assistant principal at Dan River.

Boles began his career by receiving his Bachelor’s in Biology at Georgia Southern University, his Special Education Teaching Licensure through Old Dominion, and his Master’s in Educational Leadership and Supervision at the University of Virginia.

Boles believes he has had a positive experience in his first semester here, stating, “Tunstall has outstanding students, teachers, staff, and community support.” He is proud to say that Tunstall was recently one of seven nominated to apply for the National Blue Ribbon school status. Also, he pushed for Tunstall to receive a new, updated school website, which launched on February 1st.

Even though he believed it to be a positive experience, Boles commented that some challenges he faced first semester were, “Adjusting to a new community, new students, a new building, and a new staff” and “managing the demands of being a principal while focusing on the development of my leadership.”

Boles commented that the ultimate goal for him for any semester is “improving achievement for all students” and his favorite part about working at Tunstall is the people.

He has two sons, Jackson and Shaffer, who are both Pittsylvania County students. When not within the Trojan hallways, Boles enjoys “being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and traveling when time permits.”
