Mrs. Tanya Jones

Tanya Jones is one of the new academic support teachers at THS. Jones has been teaching for a total of 10 years, nine of those years was at George Washington High School as a special education teacher in the math department. After high school, Jones went to Radford University and received a degree in business management. In 2008, she went to back to school at Liberty University and received a Master’s Degree in Special Education.

“What I like about working here is the organized structure allows the kids to learn in a more effective atmosphere.”

Jones said that she loves the overall learning environment.

Jones has been married for 20 years. Her husband, Robert Jones, is an insurance agent at Bankers Insurance. Jones has two children, a daughter and a son. Her daughter, Taylor, is a sophomore at George Washington High School, while her son, Landon, is a seventh grade student at Bonner Middle School. Outside of school, she likes to walk on the River Walk Trail in Danville. She also travels often as her son plays travel baseball for the Virginia Red 12u team and takes her daughter to dance at the Meredith Gravely School of Dance.

Jones mentioned she had one goal in particular: being a mentor to students.

“At George Washington, I became close to the students.” said Jones “Not only I was just a teacher, but a parent towards underprivileged kids.”

“I needed a change,” said Jones. “I’ve always heard good things about Tunstall. I love teaching but I needed a different environment.”
