Cross Country surges into a new season

September 1, 2016

As the new school year begins, so does cross country running. This year’s season is already off to a great start.

“I feel like we are going to do just as good, if not better than last season,” junior Ali Hill said.

This week THS had a very strong showing at their first meet. It was held at Dan Daniel Park. The girls placed 2nd and the boys placed 6th overall.

Senior Zach Gray placed 8th overall in the boys division. Although finishing with an impressive placement, Gray still believes there is room for improvement. He has high hopes for the season that everyone will work as a team and learn many things from  Coach Emerson.

This is Emerson’s first year coaching for THS; however, he has previously held this title at other schools.

Sophomore Emily Wallace describes him as a “good motivator.”

Cross Country is a very demanding sport. While runners are a part of a team, the demand on the individual runner is intense.

Hill explained both team and personal demands by saying, “As a team we practice four days a week, but I do independent workouts over the weekend.”

The success of the team depends on the commitment and work ethic of the individuals. Students look forward to another successful year for the cross country team.

The next meet will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1 at Smith River Complex.
