Observing the Trojans

On Friday, Sept. 9th, the Trojans took on the  Dan River Wildcats at home. On the same night, I took on the Trojans with camera in hand in order to get some great shots of the game. Not only was I able to capture the team and all the emotions that come with Friday night lights, but I had the pleasure of learning a lot about the loved Trojans. Standing on the sidelines was an excellent way to experience the sportsmanship, teamwork, and dedication for the game that these players possess.

Getting up close and personal, I heard the interactions of player to player, including building one up after a mistake. Whenever a team member was injured, it never went unnoticed on the sidelines. If a player was low on water or had a minor injury, the players assessed their fellow team member and helped in any way they could. There is definitely a bond on the field when it comes to the players. The encouraging words exchanged were not only heart warming, but showed how it’s more than just a game to them. It is evident that they see each other as more of a family than anything else.

There is no doubt that the THS Trojans are always quick and ready when it comes to the fast pace game. All players are observing the field or running back and forth to witness every play and tackle. The switch out happens frequently with such an intense sport, so players are always ready to go out and do their best.

Players have their own reasons as to why they love the game. It might be because of the exhilaration experienced when they run the ball farther than expected or simply just the energy and atmosphere on the field.

Sitting on the bleachers and supporting the boys is a great way to help them to get motivated and ready for the game. Trust me…the crowd’s cheers from above even had me anxious to score a touchdown.

I also learned about the interaction between the coach and players, which is very picture-worthy at several points from beginning to end. It was apparent that the coaches are the biggest fans and support of the Trojans. Even though things can get rocky, they believe in their boys no matter what. The coaches strive for their team to put in 100% effort and do the best they can.

I have to admit, last year when I would watch the games from the bleachers, all I thought about was the score and what I could visualize. Getting to experience the wonderful game of football on the sidelines and observing the players that represent Tunstall’s varsity team brought a new light and perspective to my mind. I am now more aware of all the sweat and heart the varsity players put into their games and practices.
