Saying “ditto” 26 years later

October 11, 2016

Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) is a banker, Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) is an artist, and the two are madly in love. However, when Sam is murdered by “friend” and corrupt business partner Carl Bruner (Tony Goldwyn) over a shady business deal, he is left to roam the earth as a powerless spirit. After learning about Carl’s betrayal, Sam must seek the help of psychic Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) to set things right and protect Molly from Carl and his intentions.

The film “Ghost” has a spectacular plotline, with comedic relief. Goldberg gives the film a sense of subtle comedy to the vivid love story of Sam and Molly. However, this isn’t your average chick-flick.

Although the film is centered around romance, it has a tasteful paranormal take on it.

Whoopi Goldberg successfully fulfilled the role of Oda Mae Brown. Brown is a spiritual advisor and helps Sam communicate with Molly. At first, she wasn’t fully aware of her abilities. She finally begins to realize her gift once Sam speaks to her.

Being a film of the 1990’s, the only con of the film would be the editing skills. Later in the movie, “demon” like phenomenons appear. However, these “creatures” look like something you’d find on the Halloween aisle of Dollar General. But, considering the time period, you would have to look past the small things.

Overall, the film “Ghost” is a whirlwind of emotions. It’ll make you laugh, cry, frustrated, and happy all within the first five minutes.
