Placing technology in a brighter light

November 3, 2016

How has technology impacted your daily life?

Technology has changed the world around us for the better. From the Cotton Gin, to the computer or phone screen you’re reading this on. The use of technology has been evolving way before the 21st century was envisioned.

Over centuries, mankind has invented new ways to overcome hardships in their daily lives.

It all began with fire, man’s first breakthrough. Since then, the human race has been able to reinvent itself through the aspiring realm of technology.

Although some people disagree with this statement: modern technology has really made a difference in the world we live in today.

How would we be able to stay updated on current events? How would we stay in touch with relatives across the country? How would we make education more accessible?

All of these have been made easier because of technology.

Being apart of the younger generation, I certainly can’t imagine a world without my cell phone. Yes, I know that a lot of people are sick and tired of seeing mindless zombie-like teenagers walking the streets glued to their “cellular device.” However, think of all the good it’s doing for us. A part of being young is being active in our daily lives; most of us are almost always on the go doing something. Even though having a cell phone is a privilege, not a right, young people should be able to know all of the relevance in the world. It is important that the younger generation be exposed to the world we live in today.

We shouldn’t have to apologize for being young.

As of now, we all live in a world where technology is a major part of our lives. Everything is technological. Communication is no longer waiting for the Pony Express to bring back your letter, communication is sending an e-mail to an agency about a conference. Formerly, people would have to make the effort to actually speak to one another to communicate. Now, it’s all instant. I’m not implying that no one will ever speak to one another again, I just mean that everyone is accessible by the press of a button.

As I age, I begin to fully appreciate how tolerant society has become of modern technology. In other countries, such as North Korea, the public isn’t allowed to have such advancements. Growing up in a country where we’re all allowed to be exposed to technology is very fascinating, especially being accustomed to having the entire knowledge of the world at your fingertips.

We should not demean it, but rather we should appreciate it.

Having advancements in technology have most definitely made an impact on modern day school systems. In the classroom the internet has superseded books for research, paper for standardized tests, and even a palpable teacher; this pertaining to the availability of online classes. Classroom curriculums have been made more advanced by having technology within set classrooms. Although students are not always using the said technology, we are able to excel by having what we need with just a click.

This might be taken as a rant to our parents or teachers, but it isn’t. It is 2016, the entire world is consumed by what the future has offered. Young people, including myself, have an undying need to be updated on how the world is changing in the coming years.

After all, we are the future generation.
