Ending the season with fall sports banquet

THS held its annual fall sports Monday night. After the night’s meal was served, each sport was separated into different classrooms where the awards were presented.

Cross Country coach Tripp Emerson had a successful group of runners in his first year. Award winners for the girls included Gwen Kallam, who won the Captain’s Pin and the Gutted Out Award, Ali Hill  with Most Improved and Emily Wallace with MVR (Most Valuable Runner). For the boys, Zach Gray won the Captain’s Pin and the MVR. Aiden Bork won the Gutted Out Award and Luke Vest was awarded Most Improved.

Despite having a mediocre 3-5 record, the volleyball team played well at home with a 7-2 record to prove their worth. The following players were award winners: Madison Marlow (Coach’s Award), Tessa Kaesmeyer (Best Offensive Player), Grey Capozzoli (Trojan Award), Nia Green (Most Improved) and Saige Johnson (Best Defensive Player). Kaesmeyer and Capozzoli were both named to the 1st team Piedmont District and to the Conference 30 team. Kaesmeyer was also named to the 2nd team 3A West region. Johnson and Zoey White were both on the 2nd team District. In addition, Johnson was named to the Conference 30 team while White was an honorable mention. Cathryn Estes and Molly Hughes were both honorable mentions to both District and Conference teams.

Two seasons is what it took for head coach David Potts to lead the Trojans back into playoff contention. Although they were eliminated by Brookville in the first round, the Trojans finished off their season 5-6; a significant improvement from their 2-8 season last year. The following players were award winners: Trevor Lovelace (MVP), Sage McBride (Lineman of the Year) and Fletcher Hardy (Iron Man Coaches Award).  In addition to Lovelace and McBride, Chase Poe was named to the Conference 30 first-team. Lovelace made the first team as a kick returner, but made the second team as a running back. Clay Hardy, Michael Pyrtle, Grayson Hardy and Reagan Dillon were both named to the second team. Hardy was also on the second team as an linebacker and an all purpose player.

First-year golf coach Michael McGregor also had a group of golfers that played well. The following golfers were award winners: Garrett Van Allen (Coaches Award), Dylan Martin (Most Improved) and Lane Pritchett (MVP). Along with Pritchett, Will Davis, Justin Fuller, and Dylan Martin were also named to the All-Conference team. Pritchett snagged the Conference Player of the Year Award, as well.

With the conclusion of the fall season, the winter sports are already in full swing with practices and scrimmages.
