Ten throwback DCOMs you’ve probably forgotten about

Ten+throwback+DCOMs+youve+probably+forgotten+about

Over the years, Disney has blessed us with many great original movies. Some of these movies are easily remembered while others are forgotten until they come on years later.

No, you won’t find High School Musical, The Cheetah Girls, or Halloweentown in this article. The movies featured below are the ones people may have forgotten about, but deep down still love.

This list of Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOM) is not in any specific order. Most of these movies are some of my all time favorites. If you haven’t seen any of these movies, and you want to watch them, here’s one warning: spoiler alert.

  1.  Stuck in the Suburbs

If asked what my favorite throwback DCOM was, Stuck in the Suburbs would be my answer. Some might say their first ever celebrity crush was Troy Bolton, but not me. Jordan Cahill was by far my favorite singing-in-a-movie guy from the time his long locks showed up on my screen, until he cut off all his hair halfway through the movie. When Brittany, a major fan of Cahill, and Jordan switch phones on accident, they have to go to extreme measures to get them switched back. Sounds like the ideal way to meet your celebrity crush if you ask me.

  2.   Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior

Being released in 2006, this throwback is the newest movie on the list. Brenda Song stars in it as the main character. Wendy Wu (Wendy woah, am I right?) discovers she is a reincarnated Chinese warrior and has to save innocent people’s lives from an evil spirit threatening to take over her town, and potentially, the world.

  3.   Ice Princess

This movie was my inspiration for my dream of becoming an Olympic figure skater. All main character Casey wants to do is to chase her dream of becoming an ice skater, contrary to her mother’s dream of her going to Harvard. Both her mother and the captain of the ice skating team don’t think she has it in her. Maybe she does though, as the mother of the captain sees something in her and decides to train her herself.

  4.   The Luck of the Irish

Only on air on St. Patrick’s Day, you might miss this movie if you’re not careful. It is also one of my favorite DCOMs. Watch as Kyle discovers his mother is a leprechaun and sees he, too, is turning into one, all while trying to take down an evil leprechaun that is trying to take over his family with an ancient family necklace. Seems pretty legit.

   5.   Cow Belles

Aly and AJ Michalka were the Disney Channel queens back in the 2000’s. This is just one of the many movies they starred in. When their father’s business runs out of money, he forces his daughters (Aly and AJ’s characters) to work for him to save the business. These days, I wish my father was a rich businessman who forced me to work, so I could actually get a job and earn some money.

    6.   Sky High

Here’s another Disney movie making my expectations of high school even higher. I don’t know about you, but this movie made me want to be a superhero, or at least, pretend I was one. And of course, there’s an evil villain. Watch as a group of not-so-likely friends work together to defeat the villain, Royal Pain, a.k.a Gwen.

    7.    Life-Size

This movie brought to life every little girl’s dream. Imagine your Barbie doll coming to life one day and not having any idea why. That’s what happens to main character Casey as she tries to bring her mother back to life with magic, but accidently brings her Barbie doll to life instead. Tyra Banks and Lindsay Lohan star in this DCOM. If you haven’t seen it, this movie is worth the watch.

    8.    The Thirteenth Year

If mermaids weren’t already cool, this movie made them ten times cooler. Being 13 for many people meant officially being thought of as a teenager and not some little kid anymore. For Cody Griffin, turning thirteen means turning into something else: a mermaid. One day he wakes up and realizes he can talk to aquatic animals and breathe underwater. I’d freak out.

  1.   Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century

Zetus Lupetus! Well, here we are in the 21st century and the world is nothing like this. Raven Symone stars in this with Kirsten Storms (Zenon) as her best friend. When Zenon starts getting into trouble on her spaceship home, her parents, as well as the captain of the ship, decide to send her down to Earth to live with her aunt. It’s hard for her to fit in on Earth at first, but eventually finds friends to keep her company.

  1.   My Date with the President’s Daughter

This DCOM is another major favorite of mine. When Duncan and Hallie meet at the local mall, and Duncan asks Hallie on a date, he doesn’t know what’s in store for him. But, something about her address to pick her up catches Duncan’s attention. It’s 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House’s address. Watch as he gets his date ruined by the Secret Service, meets the President of the United States, and goes on a date with the President’s daughter all in one night.
