Although there are many rewarding teachers here at THS, one stood out for the dedication she has shown. Mrs. Scott, an English teacher at THS, received teacher of the year in March 2026 by being voted by her co-workers.
Mrs. Scott has a bachelor’s degree in English from Averett University, as well as a master’s degree in education. She has lived in the Chatham area for most of her life. She has a very close relationship with her kids and family and spends most of her free time at sporting events with her children. She started off her career by teaching seventh grade English, but she wanted to move up to high school after five years to teach more mature students.
Mrs. Scott’s favorite subject has almost always been English. She excels and enjoys reading and writing which makes her a great teacher in this subject. Throughout her years at Tunstall, she has taken on a lot of other roles than just a teacher. Mrs. Scott has helped student success greatly by holding tutoring after school and by teaching Project Graduation in the summers. Mrs. Scott is also the director of graduation and works with Mrs. Rossman, the senior guidance counselor, to prepare seniors through their last year of high school.
Although she is dedicated to these projects, she also has made a great impact among the students. “I love those ‘lightbulb moments’. There is nothing more satisfying than watching and being a part of the growth, successes, and achievements of my students,” Mrs. Scott said. She has formed many meaningful relationships with the people she teaches and works with throughout her years at THS.
