Saying goodbye to teachers who have accepted new positions

The end of the school year is always a bittersweet time as graduates move on to the next chapter of their lives. Not only are seniors saying goodbye to THS, but two teachers are as well.

Mr. Edward Sherlock will be going to South Boston to teach STEM in the fields of programming and pneumatics control.

“This job gives me the opportunity to teach something new and exciting. I love to teach,” said Sherlock.

After retiring from the Navy, Sherlock began his teaching career at Tunstall Middle School for two years. He then transitioned to THS, where he has taught astronomy and biology for four years. He is also the head sponsor of Team 5950, Tunstall’s robotics team.

When asked what he will miss most, he said the robotics team.

“I see them as my second family. I spend as much time with them as I do my own children,” said Sherlock.

Mrs. Morgan Stowe will also be saying goodbye to the Trojan family. She has taken the position of the librarian at Chatham Middle School. Although she will miss THS, she is glad that she will still be working in Pittsylvania County schools.

Stowe has taught English at THS for three years. Prior to that, she taught at George Washington High School for 11 years.

“It is bittersweet. I will be doing what I love, but I am going to miss the students and teachers,” she said.

She is currently working on her second Master’s through Old Dominion University to be a librarian.

Looking ahead, Stowe said, “I will be doing what I love and dream of doing.”
