There are many people working to help run Tunstall to its full potential. Some of these people are the cafeteria workers. Among them, Elease Kidd, Laynie Harrison, Tina Hankins, Kristi Crane, Amy Hyler, Abbey Dabbs, and others who wished to not be featured, come to work every day to ensure students and staff are fed for breakfast and lunch.

Kidd is the longest serving cafeteria employee at Tunstall with 27 years, Harrison with 15 years, Hankins and Crane with 12 years, Hyler with seven years, and Dabbs with five years.

They enjoy working at Tunstall mostly because of the students, but they also enjoy the hours, summers and holidays off, and the few benefits, such as insurance and retirement. Working in the kitchen has its challenges though.

“The most difficult thing is learning the routine and how everything is ran,” said Hyler.

“Standing on the concrete floors is the hardest part about the job,” said Hankins.

“Everything has to be done step-by-step, so I think the complicated recipes are the biggest challenge,” said Crane.

All of these women’s hard-work has not gone unnoticed, and each time someone goes through the line, they are always carrying a positive attitude toward them. Senior Brooklyn Brooks expresses her gratitude on the subject.

“They are always waiting to greet me with a smile and are extremely patient women. I will miss them the most,” said Brooks.

The cafeteria ladies are a part of the foundation of THS, and without their work and contribution, the school would not run as smoothly. When going through the line in the morning or afternoon, students should be kind and appreciative toward these amazing women and tell them such.
