Between the excitement and stress of prom season, a girl can have a pretty long “to-do” list; however, one thing always stands out as most important on that list: The Dress™
Many girls at THS have already gotten their prom dresses despite the dance being on April 25. A lot of girls spend months searching online and in stores for the perfect gown. Even when a girl has a clear idea on what dress she wants, she may spend a considerable amount of time trying on many different get-ups. “No joke, I think I tried on like 35 dresses before I found THE one.” said junior Rylee Tune. Tune got her dress three weeks ago at Amanda’s Touch in Roanoke. “My planned budget was like under $600… My dress was $800…” said Tune. When asked about the color of her dress Tune simply responded with “I’m keeping the color of my dress a secret, but it might be blue.” Regardless of Tune’s flexible budget, not all dresses are this pricey.

When working with a tighter budget, senior Victoria Wade had a thrifty idea. Wade decided to save herself some change her junior year by buying her gown second hand. “I bought my dress at Song Bird in Greensboro, it was only $50!” said Wade. Buying a thrifted prom dress can be tricky, but the most important asset when shopping second hand is time. “This year I went to the same place, but I spent two hours looking for the right dress,” Wade added.
Going shopping for prom dresses with friends can be hectic, but for these two friends doubling down paid off. Senior Lauren Torborg went to purchase her gown at Mackenzie Jades in Kannapolis, N.C. with her best friend senior Ainsley Henderson. “It was so much fun having that experience with her and being able to see each other in so many dresses,” said Torborg. Henderson added “We didn’t really see each other a lot in the store, there was so much going on, but when we both found the dress we came out and showed each other and it was a really good moment.”

However, regardless of the dress, there are two things that every girl going to prom loves above all else: the dressing up and the after parties. Senior Blake Pruitt said, “I don’t like that weird awkward phase before people start dancing, but I think dressing up is really fun.”
So whether you go shopping with your friends, have a second hand gown, an expensive get-up, or you dress up just to go to the after parties, the “Night in Hollywood” themed promenade will be a blast this year! Prom will be held on April 25, 7:30 pm to 11 pm. Tickets are $40 and will be sold March 9-19. No tickets will be sold after these dates.
