The Tunstall Trojans lost to the George Washington Eagles 56-27 at Tunstall Tuesday night.

Tunstall found themselves tied on different occasions throughout the first quarter. It wasn’t until with under two minutes left that Tunstall missed a few critical layups that would have helped them take the lead. Senior TeAun Carter did a little bit of everything to help the Trojans succeed. Carter had six points, including a three that helped Tunstall take the lead in the early going. He also had one rebound. Tunstall was down by five with the score of 8-13 after the first quarter.

Down by seven in the opening minutes in the second quarter, the Trojans found some early success by going on a small, 6-0 run to put themselves back into contention. Carter made a breakaway layup after a steal and senior Will McCraw also made one, but failed to convert the one free throw that would have tied the game at 15.

Soon after, junior Luke Buckner made a reverse layup that brought them to an one point deficit. Tunstall struggled with free throws the entire quarter. They missed 6 of 7 shots from the charity stripe; senior Jamal Martin made the lone free throw. Within the final three minutes of the quarter, the Trojans missed several scoring opportunities, but junior Tyler Webster came up big with a three point shot that narrowed their deficit to seven to end the first half at 25-18.

Going into the third, Tunstall had difficulties of breaking the Eagles full court press and had trouble scoring because to their aggressive trap defense. Due to their troubles, the Trojans only managed to score four points in the third. Carter and Bucker were the only scorers; which both made layups after fighting off Eagle defenders.

In the fourth quarter, GW went deep into their bench reserves and ended with a final score of 27-56.

Tunstall’s JV team also fell to GW 44-55.
