Girls in Mrs. Nester’s second period show off their shoes.

Fashion trends are in an eternal cycle: high-waisted jeans, ripped jeans, bomber jackets, turtlenecks, and now, Chuck Taylor’s Converse. Walking through the hallways of THS, you can’t help but let your eyes glance down at the floor to see white Converse on every other girl, making you wonder where the trend all started.

The Converse All-Star was introduced in 1917, one of the first shoes designed to be worn specifically for playing basketball. But now, the game has changed. People across the nation have jumped on the bandwagon and have purchased a pair of Converse- mainly white or solid black, although they’re sold in various colors and can be custom made to anyone’s liking.

Girls have styled them with just about anything and everything: dresses, regular jeans, and even casual Nike or Adidas athletic style pants. No matter what outfit or how the shoes are styled, white Converse are swiping the school, if not the nation. After surveying select classes in the school, over 68% of students own white Converse. However, not just students are joining in on the fad. Mothers, teachers, and even the elderly are participating in wearing white Converse, as they are comfy and loved by millions.

But, white Converse aren’t the only shoes making an appearance. Bean Boots (also known as duck boots) and riding boots are making their way off the shelves and into people’s closets, especially since colder weather is here. Girls often match them with flannels or casual sweatshirts, as they are versatile just as regular Converse. They’re warm and can be matched with tons of different styles, just as girls show every day in the halls. Aside from riding boots, ankle boots (booties) are becoming popular, as well. Booties are slightly dressier than the other shoes mentioned and are often worn with oversized sweaters and dresses with tights.

Although these trends will fade, they will reappear in the never-ending fashion style cycle.
