As the new year rolled around quickly, so did a new, unique coffee place. 7brew is a chain of coffee shops that found its way to Danville, VA. It opened on January 19; however, they found a way to draw customers before the grand opening.
At the start of January, 7brew management announced through Facebook that their employees will be giving away free coffee. The word got around quickly and before long, the line to 7brew went all the way down Riverside. People from Danville were ecstatic of the idea of free coffee. Junior Kayleigh Mazza– a 7brew employee– said, “It can definitely get stressful when it’s busy, but there’s always someone ready to help you no matter what position you’re working.”
If you had stopped by during the free drink extravaganza, you’d know exactly what she is talking about. “Those free drink days were definitely the busiest by far,” junior Summer Flores continued.
Another enticing way of bringing in new people was using car markers and writing things like, “I love 7brew,” or “7brew is the best!” Writing on the cars showed others throughout town that 7brew was open. “I really enjoyed watching all my friends come through the drive through and writing on everyone’s cars.” Flores continued.
The coffee that was handed out was the same coffee that the employees made to practice. Since 7brew is new, they have no trained employees. This way, the coffee that they practice making does not go to waste! They used something that was already going on and turned it into a marketing strategy to encourage new customers to stop by. Let’s be honest, free coffee would draw anyone good business.
They built up many returning customers, including students from THS. Layla Clay who is a freshman at THS has put 7brew in her rotation. Clay explained, “I love coffee and when a new place opened, I for sure had to go!” She used to be a Starbucks girl but she turned into a 7brew supporter.
Although the 5:30 wake up call seems quite intense, the employees get a better discount than any of us at the town’s new hot spot. The employees get a 50% discount when they are not working and a free drink at the end of each shift. Mazza says “My favorite drink at 7 Brew is the iced white chocolate raspberry truffle mocha.”
Since they are only a drive-thru, they do not have to worry about an inside area which could speed up their work pace. There are many other aspects about this place that others might think are the best way of doing things. This creates competition in the coffee shop world in Danville. Sophomore Mia Fowlkes loves 7brew, and she has been there multiple times since it opened. “I think 7brew is better than most places because they have tons of different kinds of drinks,” Fowlkes expressed. She used to go to Starbucks and local places around Danville, but she has started visiting 7brew more.
No matter which coffee place takes the top spot, 7brew is definitely one that has brought a lot of attention recently in Danville. Although the free coffee has come to an end, their customers definitely did not.
